About JAIME:
Jaime Questell is a writer and graphic designer from Houston, Texas. She has also been a bookseller, a professional knitter, a semi-professional baker, and an administrative assistant. None of these jobs involved wrangling corgis, which is quite sad.

Le Grand’s Carnival Fantastic isn’t like other traveling circuses. It’s bound by a charm, held together by a centuries-old curse that protects its members from ever growing older or getting hurt. With just a kiss, Emmaline King is cursed, trapped within the confines of the carnival. Breaking the curse seems like her only chance at freedom, but with no curse, there’s no charm, either—dooming everyone who calls the Carnival Fantastic home. Including the boy, she’s afraid she’s falling for.
I have to listen to music while writing, and the music to BY A CHARM AND A CURSE really influenced the world and the story. Since CHARM is told in two points of view, I largely listened to two bands as I wrote. For Emma, I listened to Kitten, because I felt their shimmery guitars and delicate vocals really exemplified how Emma was feeling as she adjusted to life with the curse. For Benjamin, I wanted something bluesy and classic, and The Rubens really nailed that sound. And there’s one scene that I knew had to be written but I couldn’t do it without the right song. {SPOILER} So for Sidney’s death, I listened to My Chemical Romance’s Fake Your Death on repeat. It’s haunting and sad, but it has that note of life must go on that felt essential to the scene.

It’s interesting to find out what authors do besides write books. There are so many different vocations here on the Pink Team.
