In the spring of 2018, I ran a writing workshop on fantasy worldbuilding for students ranging from middle school through college. After the camp, I revised my materials and expanded them for more teachers to use.
Do your students love Harry Potter? Channel their Hogwarts mania into a fun creative writing exercise! This workshop guides students step-by-step through making their own wizardry school based in their own hometown. Students will ponder everything from geography, to history, to local flora and fauna as they build their school from the ground up. They’ll pick a location for their school, make up the history of its founders, and even compose a sorting hat quiz!
This workshop works as an enrichment activity while reading J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter books, as well as a standalone creative writing exercise.
