Nainai’s Mountain comes out April 8th! I think of this book as kind of an I Dream of Popo in reverse. Whereas I Dream of Popo was about a little girl leaving Taiwan, Nainai’s Mountain is about a half-Chinese girl visiting Taiwan with her Nainai (paternal grandmother) for the first time.
Like Popo, Nainai’s Mountain is heavily based on my own family. It’s chock full of details from my parents’ childhoods, and the mountain climbing is based on my own mountain-climbing grandmother. I also purposely made the main character half-Chinese/half-Caucasian, because I wrote it while imagining a trip like this for my own daughter and her grandmother, hopefully sometime in the near future!

I love this print so much. it’s a picture of the type of bike vendors that used to peddle various things around Taipei back in the 1950s and 60s. And you can get a signed copy by ordering from these bookstores.
