Dreams to Ashes is launching in less than five weeks! This past month has been rocky in the United States. Immigrants are front and center in our national conversation, and many are scared and suffering. While I’d hoped for Dreams to Ashes to come out in a less tumultuous time, I’m grateful at least for the chance to highlight the tragic consequences of racism and xenophobia.
I’m also grateful that the book is getting some recognition. In addition to being a Junior Library Guild selection, Dreams to Ashes is has also been awarded a starred review by School Library Journal, which says, “This deeply felt coverage of the inflection points for so many communities is a must-have for all libraries.”
If you’re curious about the book, you can still read it free through the end of the month.
As a thank you to my readers, I’m offering swag packs for people who preorder the book or request it from their local library. (While supplies last) There are three tiers of rewards.
Tier 1: Book plate signed by Nicole Xu and me (signature only).
Order the book from any retailer and submit proof of purchase here. Since I know that not everyone can afford new books, you can also request the book from your local library and submit it for swag as well, though preorders will receive priority if supplies run low. This offer is open internationally.
Order Dreams to Ashes from:
Hardcover: Bookshop | Amazon | Barnes and Noble | Blackwell’s (free international shipping)
eBook: Kindle | Nook | Google

Tier 2: Everything in Tier 1 (bookplate), plus three gorgeous postcard prints with art from the book.
To get these, order Dreams to Ashes from one of the following independent bookstores.
Bel Canto Books (Long Beach, CA)
Belmont Books (Belmont, MA)
Belonging Books (Hyannis, MA)
Once Upon a Time (Montrose, CA)
Word Up Community Bookstore (New York, NY)
Most of these stores only ship domestically. I don’t want to leave international readers in the lurch though, so if international readers do Tier 1, I’ll send you postcards if I have them.
Tier 3: Everything in Tier 2 (bookplate and postcards), plus you can have the bookplate signed to a specific person. For this tier, order your book from Once Upon a Time bookstore. This is US only, but again, for international readers, I’ll do my best to accommodate you in Tier 1.
There’s also a chance that all three tiers will also include a bookmark. More on that soon.
