Clementine and Danny Save the World (and Each Other) centers around the fictional Fragrant Leaves teashop a business that’s also a community gathering place, cultural institution, and repository for memories. When news breaks that Fragrant Leaves might be taken over by chain grocery, Danny’s first thought is, “But where would everyone play mahjong?”
Writing Clementine and Danny made me much more aware of the importance of Asian owned spaces and businesses for preserving culture and showcasing Asian ingenuity and drive.
In conjunction with the launch of Clementine and Danny Save the World (And Each Other), I’m running a contest to celebrate and boost Asian Owned Businesses. Shout out your favorite Asian Owned business, and you just might win $100 to spend there. (If they do gift cards, you’ll get one. Otherwise, we’ll communicate with the business to figure out the best approach.)

- Shout out your favorite Asian Owned Business with the hashtag #ClementineAndDannyShoutout. You can do this on any social media or your blog, as long as you can get a link to your post. Here are some example posts I’ve done on Instagram and Twitter.
- Submit the link to your post in the form below. (Or click here for the form.) Each post is one entry in the prize drawing. Feel free to submit multiple posts for multiple entries (as long as each post features a different business).
- You can get extra entries on each post if you link to this contest page.
- Entries featuring LA Chinatown businesses also get an additional entry into a special $50 prize sponsored by the Chinese American Citizens Alliance. If you qualify for that, you can specify in the form.
I will draw a winner on August 31st, 2023. The winner will receive $100 to spend at the business they posted about.
